During a recent Met visit, I noticed the Sackler name on many of the museum’s benefactor lists. I felt a visceral “ugh” when noting each attempt at artwashing. Looking forward to hearing this discussion about the parallels between grievances in Northern Ireland and those here against our dysfunctional, market-driven healthcare system!
But not on the former Sackler Wing. Watch All the Beauty and the Bloodshed, which chronicles photographer/addict Nan Goldin’s campaign to erase the Sackler name from all the edifices that benefited from the family’s efforts at virtue laundering.
Thank you, I’ll check it out for sure! I’m glad that the Met removed the Sackler name from the wing (and according to a 12/19 press release, from seven galleries in total). The Sackler names remain carved into stone, unfortunately, in benefactor lists lining the Grand Staircase and I think in the Great Hall as well. Although maybe— they’re from the branch of the family that wasn’t implicated? That’s possible…
Thank you! And yes — we will be talking to Nika Dubrovsky, his collaborator and widow, very soon. She grew up in squats reading samizdat in Soviet days and is the perfect WRB guest.

There’s that Graeber guy again! Hope you’ll do an episode on his work.
Also, PRK interview was great!

Only know his work via Dawn of Everything, so looking forward.
Big fan here! Requires 2X listening for my foggy brain, but it’s time very well spent. Forwarding promiscuously 🙏
