You and Stephen have put your finger on exactly what is needed, a candid conversation about the “catastrophe“ and where we go from here. I loved everything about this first episode and look forward to many to come.
One guest I suggest would be Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, who wrote this:
“... I know I’m suffering. I couldn’t have been more shocked by Trump’s reelection than if we’d voted to bring back slavery. It has left me staggering with shame and fear. Shame that my fellow Americans chose to embrace racism, misogyny, greed and, worst of all in terms of our future, blustering irrationality. Trump was the worst president in the history of our country—and we chose him again.”
I’ve been partial to Virginia Hefferman and Stephen Metcalf for years. Stumbled across this tonight at 1 AM in a low anxiety sleepless state. Clear fresh water in a desert. Deeply and respectfully affirming. IMO this is essential for anyone who thinks, and feels, and cares. WTF am I talking about?? - Check it out. I pulled the trigger and subscribed.
Thank you! What a brain-tickling conversation. So wonderful to hear your and Stephen’s thoughts & feelings. Even though it’s a hard time looking at what it is to be human now at least there are thinking on this. And maybe we can be better to one another.
You are providing an opportunity for thinkers, those unable to think, and chronic worriers, to come together and mop up some of the murkiness. Blessings on you!
Wow! I recently finished The Dawn of Everything and was fascinated to hear more about Graeber and how his thinking informed this book and fit into a bigger picture. Can’t wait for he next ep to drop. Congratulations!
my god how I have missed Virginia Heffernan's voice since I lost track of her when Trumpcast ended. I don't know who Stephen Metcalf is but at "...according to what plan of action does one decide not to despair?......Christian fortitude" I had to upgrade my subscription. I want to be a part of this community and these conversations.
