Biden, resolute and charged with emotion, would pass Harris the party mantle with great solemnity, delivering first an elegy for his class of great male legislators who crusaded against bigotry, cruelty, and the exploitation of the weak by the strong, and then, as she assumed the mantle (with reciprocal solemnity), a re-introduction of Harris as the new standard-bearer for progressive politics.
